BBQ Baked Beans

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp molasses
  • 1 tbsp vegan Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion chopped
  • 2 cans pinto beans drained

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F 

  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, sugar, tomato paste, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, mustard and garlic powder until fully combined.
  3. Heat the oil in a skillet on medium-high heat.
  4. When the oil is hot, add the onions and stir to coat in the oil. Cook until translucent and slightly caramelized.
  5. Reduce the heat and add the beans and the maple syrup mixture. Stir until well combined.
  6. Put the contents into a baking dish and bake for 30 to 45 minutes, or until the beans are thick and the sauce is sticky. The edges of the beans should be caramelized. Serve warm.
